Domestic Assistant, GMS Band A (7.5 hours a week)
GMS has a part time position of Domestic Assistant working within Domestic Services, based at Rosebank Health at Severnvale Doctors Surgery. The position of Domestic Assistant is a key role within the delivery of cleaning services, within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and associated premises and is vital to our commitment to provide a clean and safe environment to our patients.
Evenings Monday to Friday: 18:00 – 19.30
The post holder will be part of a team providing a clean and safe environment for our service users and help to reduce the spread of healthcare associated infections (HCAI’s) by undertaking general and specialist cleaning duties.
As a domestic services assistant (or domestic assistant) you will carry out the cleaning. This could include:
- dusting
- using spray cleaners
- cleaning hard floors
- using vacuum cleaners or carpet cleaners
- cleaning toilet and bathroom areas

Responsible for cleaning in the GMS sites to the British institute of Cleaning Science and NHS standards of Cleanliness to the required work frequencies as per the work schedules. Have the ability to suggest and make changes to work schedules to improve customer experience and improve efficiency.
To rectify any failures in cleanliness standards after routine monitoring has been completed and report completion of the rectification to your Supervisor
To adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.

Ensure the cleaning cupboards are clean and tidy after each shift and that all equipment is left check, cleanliness and systems and process are in place.
Responsible for the safe and secure storage of cleaning chemicals and stock items for refilling and replenishing dispensers with, i.e.: paper hand towels, soap, toilet tissue, etc. Report stock shortfalls and request supplies from your Supervisor
Observe the correct use and care of equipment, reporting any damage, malfunction or maintenance requirements to a supervisor. Ensure all equipment is cleaned after use and is left in a safe condition and ready to be used by the next person on duty.
As part of the GMS water management processes and procedures, be responsible for flushing in wards and department areas. Record information on the flushing forms to show compliance with Health Technical Memorandum.
Change soiled screen, cubicle and window curtains as required in accordance with a curtain change programme. Remove full soiled linen bags of curtains to the collection point. Replace linen bags as required.
To be responsible for the collection and disposal of waste from one’s own specific work area and the collection and storage of waste from locations in accordance to local procedures and the waste disposal policy.
Report any changes to the areas you are working in to your supervisor to ensure the correct cleaning is provided in each space i.e. change of use of an area.
To ensure areas, buildings and cleaning cupboards have been locked during (as appropriate) and after cleaning, if the area is not occupied and replace keys in compliance with local procedures.
