An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 HCA to join our Team at University Hospital Sussex NHS Foundations Trust in Worthing Hospital who provide outstanding care for patients with cancer. We are a friendly cohesive team and require a focused, committed, enthusiastic individual. To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department. To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of a qualified nurse and to be continually aware of the need for confidentiality. Where appropriate, to continue to develop own capabilities in nursing tasks in order to deliver a high standard of care. Monitor and record patient’s vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation) and report any abnormal results immediately to registered nurse staff. Demonstrate an understanding of infection control issues by attending mandatory training, understand infection control procedures, accept responsibility for own infection control practice and be willing to challenge others’ practice.

Communication
- To work in a team with Nursing and Medical staff and other Healthcare, Allied Health Professionals and support staff.
- To report all incidents/accidents involving patients and staff to the RN and to assist in any enquiries. Completing required incident report/Datix
- To answer telephone enquiries pleasantly, in accordance with the Trust’s telephone answering technique and take appropriate action
- To participate in the use of IT within the department
Service Delivery and Improvement
- Participate in Improvement Huddles to identify potential improvements to service delivery
People Management and Development
- Support trainees, apprentices and learners
- There is no responsibility for line management
Patient Care Delivery
- To assist patients to carry out personal care
- To assist patient to mobilise where appropriate
- Testing specimens and recording the results
- Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight on admission to the unit, under the instruction from the RN. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the RN or Nurse in Charge
- Under the supervision of the RN and medical staff, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety
- To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the NIC/ward manager
- To adhere to the policy for the control of infection
- To participate in the promotion of positive learning environment and to act as a role model at all times
- To be aware of and contribute to Clinical Governance arrangements/issues for area of work
- Assist with patient flow though our Outpatients Department, working with other members of the Multi-disciplinary team
Learning and Development
- Complete mandatory training updates as required
- Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process
- Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales
- Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager
- Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service
