Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our resettlement function, which aims to deliver improved resettlement outcomes for prisoners at HMP & YOI Parc. Your role within this team will be to support prisoners during their resettlement window, developing strong working relationships with key agencies involved and working in partnership with Probation resettlement teams and CRS to plan for prisoners release from HMP & YOI Parc, enhancing their opportunities for successful resettlement.
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about improving outcomes for prisoners. Within this role, you will be required to provide support and assistance, undertake assessments, provide brief interventions and facilitate group sessions. The role is busy but rewarding, you will need to be a confident self-starter, good at working intuitively and able to build effective professional relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with internal and external partner agencies including Probation resettlement teams, Community Rehabilitation Services (CRS), DWP, Prison employment leads and other community based agencies to improve resettlement opportunities
- Work alongside the Early days in Custody Team (EDIC) who greet new arrivals at Parc (including those sent from other establishments and those received directly from court) and ensure discussions and pathways focus on positive resettlement outcomes from day one
- Work in partnership with Community Offender Management (COM) to ensure prison leaver information is passed to relevant agencies post release in order to reduce duplication.
- Attend Prison Offender Manager (POM) to Community Offender Manager (COM) handover to ensure prison leavers internal resettlement pathway is planned in line with wider resettlement referrals to CRS support services and housing.
- Deliver one-to-one brief interventions based on identified needs where appropriate
- Deliver group work sessions alongside prisoner peer mentors on range of topics as part of the resettlement programme
- Support and supervise prisoner peer mentors who work as part of the resettlement team
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure support is made available during the resettlement period
- Work in partnership with colleagues to develop a system that identifies resettlement needs and signposts to relevant interventions.
- Work with prison staff and stakeholders to match internal opportunities to improve resettlement outcomes.
- Work with the Learning and Skills team to ensure the prison induction process effectively captures information relating to prisoner education, work experience and skills and signposts to meaningful pathways which will support resettlement opportunities.
- Work in partnership with the Prison’s Employment Lead to improve access to employment opportunities upon release.
- Work alongside the Neurodiversity manager to ensure individuals with neurodiverse needs have their resettlement needs met.
- Undertake any personal or professional development as required by the role, in particular in relation to safety and risk management
The ideal candidate for this role will have eperience working in Resettlement related services and must be able to demonstrate the ability to work to tight deadlines, have a keen eye for detail and have the ability to prioritise workload . Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as working proactively and using your own initiative. It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios. The role requires an individual with excellent IT skills.
