Our Housekeepers are part of the Catering Team within AGH Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, and we are now looking for caring, committed & flexible colleagues to join our current ward based housekeeping team.
The role of Housekeeper is challenging, but very rewarding, & one where you are in the enviable position of being able to take time to speak with our patients & help with their recovery by offering our hydration and nutritional offering to them. Full Training will be given, including Allergen training, and on all of our meals, there may even be some food tasting……
Our Housekeepers, help keep the ward clean & tidy in line with the National Cleaning Standards, record fridge temperatures, collate patient meal orders via an iPad, deliver patient meals, & drink services, Working a part of a team is paramount in this role, but be prepared for busy days & rewarding days in this role. Please be aware that our Housekeepers hours are between 0700-2000 7 days a week, 365 days a year, typical shifts are 0700-1330, and 1600-2000, although our shifts do differ due to the service area so flexibility is key.
Training will be provided and this will be initially for 2 weeks Mon-Fri which must be completed, you must also be 18 or over in order to apply for this post.
The role:
- Housekeepers will be expected to demonstrate a flexible attitude to their work to meet the needs of the service.
- Maintains a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined within the National Specification of Cleanliness.
- Prepares and presents patient meals and beverages in inpatient areas in accordance with Food Hygiene procedures.
- Compliance with policies and procedures
- Adhere to infection prevention policies, procedures, audits in line with the Health Act 2006, to actively reduce Health Care Associated Infections

Please be aware that our Housekeepers hours are between 0700-2000 7 days a week, 365 days a year, typical shifts are 0700-1330, and 1600-2000, although we do offer different shifts due to the service area and requirements on the Housekeeping service so flexibility is key. Your shifts will be allocated on a roster basis, at least 2 weeks in advance.
Key Tasks:
Service Delivery – Cleanliness
- Ensure the cleanliness of the environment in accordance with the National Specification of Cleanliness 2007 or equivalent and to the agreed work schedules. The post holder will clean areas as per schedule in line with the NHS Cleaning Manual.
- Adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.
- Follow local procedures for reporting areas cleaned and highlighting issues which have prevented duties being carried out.
- Report maintenance faults, building fabric issues, pests and any other concerns to the Hostess and Housekeeper Supervisor.
- Ensure patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity is maintained throughout your work.
- Follows SOP’s and able to make comment and contribute to policy development to enable continuous improvement
- Demonstrating leadership qualities by guiding and providing support to new or less experienced staff in support of induction of new starters
- Completes own time sheets and staff survey
Service Delivery – Linen
- Store linen in a safe and responsible manner. Contacting the linen services department to adjust linen accordingly
- Assist with the removal of used linen and follow the rejected linen process.
Service Delivery – Food & Beverage Service
- Complete patient menus using the electronic tablets ordering systems and following the SOP and according to clinical and dietary needs as advised by nursing staff.
- Under Nursing supervision serve meals to patients
- Ensure cleanliness of Kitchen in line with national standards report any exceptions to supervisor
- Complete temperature control records to ensure compliance with food hygiene legislation, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements.
- To maintain the kitchen to a safe and hygienic condition including washing all crockery, cutlery, food containers and feeding equipment after use (in line with the Ward\Department Food Handling Procedure and Food Safety and Hygiene Regulation 2013)
- Preparation, delivery and service of beverages and toast, and continental breakfast, as required, to the patients at ward level ensuring the standard of service required are achieved in accordance with Food Hygiene procedures.
- Preparation, service and clearing up of inpatient’s beverage service, including the replenishment of water jugs, in accordance to the work schedule.
General Housekeeping
- To deal promptly and correctly with spillages as they occur.
- To act as a ward messenger, including taking specimens to the laboratory, delivering to and collecting from Pharmacy and X-ray Departments as required.
- To maintain adequate supplies of admission packs/documentation paperwork.
- Ensure disposal of rubbish and laundry, organisation of cupboards and general tidiness of ward. To keep store cupboards clean and tidy.
- To prepare bed spaces for admission and tidy bed spaces following discharges.
- Clean patient equipment & computers following the SOP and ensuring ‘I am clean’ label is on place
- Clear patient over bed tables ready for meals and encourage hand washing before mealtimes
- To maintain the kitchen to a safe and hygienic condition , in line with the Ward\Department Food Handling Procedure and Food Safety and Hygiene Regulation 2019
