Are you looking for part time, term time work in school meals? Or would you like part time work in a modern, café environment? Do you have a happy, pleasant manner and a love of children? Are you committed to great customer service and learning new skills? Then please read on!
We are recruiting into Permanent Variable Hours Catering Assistant posts, both within our School Meals team, and within the Brew and Bake café situated in City Hall. There are no minimum contracted hours per week, but regular work would likely range from 7.5 hrs to 12.5 hours per week on average.
The positions within the school meals service are term time only, and available across all areas of the City of Sunderland (including Washington / Hetton le Hole / Houghton le Spring). The positions within the Brew & Bake café are based in City Hall in the centre of Sunderland.
Duties in school meals will include the serving of meals, washing up, cleaning of the kitchen, movement of dining furniture and all general catering duties. You will be required to cover in a range of kitchens in your locality where required and hours worked will depend on the kitchen where you are covering but will tend to average around 2 hours / day over the lunch time period.
In Brew & Bake, the duties will be similar to those in school meals, but will also include producing sandwiches, preparing hot drinks and taking payments. Hours will mainly be within our daily opening times (08.00-17.00, Monday to Friday), but there will be some opportunities for evening and weekends to help events.
There is regular work available for PVH staff and permanent contracted hour positions are advertised for existing school meals employees throughout the year. Previous catering experience is not essential as full training will be provided.
If you are looking for more hours, then work is also available within the Council’s Building Cleaning service, cleaning in schools / Civic buildings on mornings / afternoons (this can be discussed at interview if necessary).
The posts in the School Meals team are exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
