About The Service
You will earn £23,152 a year working full time (37 hour a week), or £12 per hour pro rata, as we are a Voluntary Living Wage employer. The Living Wage is reviewed each year and Cardiff Council reserves the right to make changes to, or remove, the Living Wage Supplement.
Our Children’s Services Participation Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Children & Young People Participation Officer based at County Hall Cardiff CF10 4UW. In this role you will support the Lead Participation Officer in engaging children, young people, and families, helping the team to develop and deliver participation initiatives that put service users at the heart of our work. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a qualification in Youth Work at Level 2 with the potential to also complete the Level 3 within the contract period depending on progress. This job would be ideal opportunity for someone interested in Youth Work, a career in Children’s Services or any other work involving Children and Young People. You will be provided with an experience on site mentor, as well as additional training and support in your role.

About the job
This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that has a real impact on the lives of children and young people. You will gain valuable experience, develop a range of skills, and be part of a supportive team dedicated to making a difference. In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) role you will learn to assist the team with activities to encourage engagement and participation with children, young people, parents and carers. This will involve: helping to organise training and events, creating feedback surveys and collating results, maintaining accurate records, preparation of reports and other documents and general administration. You will also learn to positive relationships with children, young people, parents, carers, and external partners and follow Safeguarding Policies and Processes – full training in all aspects of the role will be provided.
To support your development, you will also undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Youth Work at Level 2 in the role as a minimum and will receive on the job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer focussed manner. You will also be supported by a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.
Many of our teams work online with a mix of home or hybrid (office) working. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment and training, however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (support may be available to help with this).
Core working hours will be Monday to Friday, working 8.30am- 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30-4.30pm on Friday. Flexible working will be available and you may also be required to work occasionally outside of usual working hours.
