We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, motivated, and skilled Play Specialist to join our friendly team and work in the Children's Outpatient department providing normal play materials and activities appropriate to the age, development, medical condition and special needs of each child/adolescent
This is a part time post
Guided by the play specialist team provide high quality, holistic play service for all children, young people and their families within the Children and Young People division.
To enable Children and Young People to feel at ease and feel safe within the hospital environment and have appropriate access to play whilst in hospital.
To support daily play, art and fun activities in the playroom or waiting area where appropriate.
To work collaboratively with the nursing team and medical team using play to help with distraction and preparation for hospital procedures.

- Provision of normal play materials and activities appropriate to the age, development, medical condition and special needs of each child/adolescent.
- Advise and support parents/carers in their play activities with their children.
- Select and care of play materials appropriate to the department and cultural needs of the local population.
- Create a comfortable, stimulating and anti-discriminatory environment for all children and adolescents.
- Support Phlebotomist within the Play Department.
- Be aware at all times of the provision of a healthy and safe environment, in accordance with Trust policy and current legislation.
- To implement the above in any area identified by the Senior Play Specalist as requiring cover.
- To take responsibility for own personal development and keep up to date with current trends regarding play in hospital.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained.
