£19,188.00 per year (Based on 30 hours per week) plus benefits.

Age UK Birmingham & Sandwell provides a range of services and programmes for people aged 50 and over.

The Sandwell Community Support programme is dedicated to reducing loneliness and isolation amongst older people to help them become more active in later life through the provision of social and physical activities (for example, walking groups, singing, tai chi, walking tennis and other activities), across Sandwell.

The ideal candidate

You will be able to demonstrate excellent people and communication skills, with an ability to engage and encourage older people and liaise with volunteers. You will also be able to evidence ability to work as part of a team, strong organisational skills, with a commitment to high quality, empathetic, customer service for older people.

The Organisation

Age UK are a locally focused charity supporting people over 50, in Birmingham and Sandwell. We have a range of different services for older people, all aimed at providing support to older people to remain independent at home and connected to their community. We support with mental and physical wellbeing, as well as practical services.

As part of our services, we have over 120 volunteers across Birmingham and Sandwell, supporting us in our efforts to ensure everyone in our community can love later life.

Job Purpose

Your role will be to develop and deliver our programme of social and physical activities for people aged 50+ across Sandwell. You will also work with the programme manager to design and implement evaluation systems to demonstrate the impact social and physical activities have on wellbeing within aged care.

Principal Duties:

To develop new social and physical activities for older people
To engage with older people to understand their aspirations for activities and develop community offer in response
To prepare material and actively promote the activities of the programme to citizens, partners, and other stakeholders
To maintain accurate and confidential records of all activities and outcomes
To represent the team at external meetings where appropriate
Work with the Line Manager to achieve targets to meet funding contract requirements
Risk assesses working environments as appropriate in line with AUKB’s Health & Safety policy
To support volunteers assisting the service
Make referrals/signpost to Age UK Birmingham and Sandwell colleagues and other appropriate agencies and organisations for specialist support
Report all incidents and accidents promptly to the Line Manager
To undertake any other duties commensurate to the post not specifically mentioned in this job description.

Please note that this role requires a full driving license and access to your own vehicle.

Work Location:

Based predominantly in Head Office (Stratford House, Stratford Place, Birmingham, B12 0HT).

Is it expected as part of the role you will visit communicate based sites and have the ability to make your own way to and from these sites, from head office location (expenses covered from H/O).

Ability to Work From Home if required.
